MBA in Tourism - EU Business School Munich, Germany

Before I started my MBA in Sustainable Tourism at European University in Munich, I was a biologist with a deep love for the ocean and a dream of creating a scuba diving business that could support marine conservation. I knew a lot about animals, ecosystems, and the importance of protecting our planet, but absolutely nothing about accounting, marketing, or how to run a business. I just knew I wanted to build something meaningful, something that could fund scientific research, educate guests, involve the local community, and have a real impact.

That’s exactly why I chose this MBA. The program gave me a solid foundation in everything I needed to know, from how to write a business plan and manage finances, to understanding how to promote a service and position it in a competitive market. I learned the principles of accounting, how to read financial statements, what makes a sustainable business model, and how to build strong marketing strategies that stay true to your mission. Every course, every project, helped me grow more confident in the idea that I could actually do this.

One thing that really motivated me throughout this journey was seeing all my older colleagues, mentors, and professors (people I admired deeply) struggling to find funding and support for their important research. I watched as they spent so much time begging governments and private businesses for financial backing, only to face constant barriers. I didn’t want to be in that position. I wanted to create something of my own, something that would generate revenue, so I could fund conservation efforts directly, whether it be research, education, or community initiatives. That’s when I realized that starting my own business wasn’t just a way to achieve my dreams; it was a way to ensure that my passion for conservation would be sustainable in the long run.

Munich was the perfect place for this chapter of my life. The city is thriving, efficient, and full of life. It’s a place where tradition and innovation go hand in hand, and I found that incredibly inspiring. On a personal level, it also felt like a homecoming. My grandfather was German, and spending time in Munich allowed me to reconnect with that part of my heritage. I admired the precision, the organization, and the strong work ethic that seem to be embedded in everyday life there.

Looking back, the decision to study this MBA was a turning point. It gave me the tools and confidence I needed to combine my scientific background with real-world business skills. Most importantly, it brought me one step closer to building a diving company grounded in conservation and purpose; something I’m proud to say I’ve now done with my husband, Daniel, in Sint Maarten through our company, SXM Divers.

This experience taught me that even if you start with zero knowledge, passion and the right education can take you exactly where you want to go.
