Exchange student - Universidad de Granada, Spain
Through the international exchange program organized by Universidad Simón Bolívar, I had the incredible opportunity to spend a year studying at the University of Granada in Spain. It was my first time traveling alone to Europe. The experience was both exhilarating and transformative.
Granada is a city that captures your heart instantly. Nestled at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains, it's a place where history, culture, and natural beauty converge. The Alhambra, with its intricate architecture and lush gardens, stands as a testament to the city's rich Moorish heritage. On weekends, I found myself torn between the allure of the nearby Mediterranean beaches, perfect for scuba diving, and the snow-capped mountains ideal for skiing. The city's vibrant atmosphere, combined with its diverse offerings, made every day an adventure.
Academically, I was enrolled in the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Granada, located in the Fuentenueva campus. The faculty offers a wide range of programs in natural sciences, and I was fortunate to learn from some of the best. One of my favorite courses was Animal Physiology, taught by Professor Gabriel Cardenete Hernández. His expertise and passion for the subject made complex topics accessible and engaging. Another highlight was the Ethology class with Professor Manuel Soler Cruz, a renowned expert in animal behavior and evolutionary biology. His lectures were not only informative but also inspired me to delve deeper into the study of animal behavior.
Living in Granada also meant embracing a new way of life. I shared two different apartments during my stay, each with a group of wonderful girls from various backgrounds. This was a departure from my life back home, but it taught me invaluable lessons about convivencia: living together harmoniously. We cooked together, celebrated festivals, and supported each other through the ups and downs of student life.
During holidays, I seized the chance to travel. Whether with friends or solo, I explored the diverse regions of Andalusia, ventured into Eastern Europe, marveled at the landscapes of Scandinavia, and even crossed into Morocco. Each journey enriched my understanding of different cultures and broadened my horizons.
Reflecting on my year in Granada, I am filled with gratitude. The city's charm, the academic rigor of the University of Granada, and the friendships I forged have left an indelible mark on my life. It was a year of growth, learning, and unforgettable experiences.
